Balancing a Propeller
Horizontal Balancing
A. Align the propeller’s blade horizontally along the balancer shaft.
If the propeller blade falls out of horizontal alignment:
• Carefullyusesandpapertoremoveasmallamountofplasticfromthe
entirefrontoftheheavierpropellerblade(inthedarker-coloredareas
marked“A”and“B”ontheaboveillustratedpropeller).
-Use80-gritsandpapertoremovelargeamountsofmaterial.
-Useanersandpaper(150-gritorner)toremovesmallamounts
ofmaterialforasmoothernish.
• Usecleartapeorpainttoaddmaterial,ifyoudesiretoavoidsanding
yourpropeller.
-Iftapeisused,applytapeacrosstheleadingedgeofthepropeller
tothebackandfrontofthepropellerinordertopreventanincrease
in air resistance.
B.Removeplasticfromthebladeuntilthepropellerstaysproperlyalignedin
the horizontal position.
Vertical Balancing
A.Alignthepropeller’sbladeverticallyalongthebalancershaft.
(Thisisoftencalled“balancingthehub”.)
If the propeller blade falls out of vertical alignment:
• Carefullyusesandpapertoremoveasmallamountofplasticfromthe
frontoftheheavierpropellerblade(intheareasmarked“A“or“B”on
theaboveillustratedpropeller).Forexample,ifarea“A”isheavierthan
area“B”,thepropellerwillturntohorizontalwith“A”stayingdown.
• Removeplasticfromthebladeuntilthepropellerstaysproperlyaligned
intheverticalposition.
B.Afterverticalbalancing,turnthepropellerbacktothehorizontalposition
andmakesurethepropellerkeepsitshorizontalbalance.Keepturningthe
propellerbetweenverticalandhorizontaltomakesureremovingmaterial
onlyimprovesbalance.
Materials required:
• Propeller
• High-precisionpropellerbalancer
(forexample,DU-BROTru-SpinPropellerBalancer)
• Sandpaper(80to150gritorner)
• Cleartapeorpaint
Balancingapropellerpreventsmotorand/orairframedamage.Alwaysbalanceanew
propellerbeforeuse.Thefollowingprocedureappliestopropellersofallmaterials
e.g.,plastic,wood,carbonber.Theinstructionsbelowdescribesandingoradding
materialtoapropellerinordertoachieveproperbalance.Itisimportanttousea
high-precisionpropellerbalancer,liketheDU-BROTru-SpinPropellerBalancer,inan
areawithnoairmovement.

Final Balancing
A.Afterverticalandhorizontalbalancing,turnthepropellertootheranglesalongthebalancershaft.
If the propeller blades fall from an angle:
• Carefullyusesandpapertoremoveasmallamountofplasticfromthefrontoftheheavierpropellerblade(intheareasmarked“A”or“B”ontheillustrated
propeller)untilthepropellerisfullybalanced.
• Removeplasticfromthebladeuntilthepropellerstaysproperlyalignedalongthebalancershaftatanyangle.
CAUTION:Alwaysdiscardachippedorcrackedpropeller.Adamagedpropellercanfailwhenturningathighspeed,causingyourairplanetocrash.This
cancausepropertydamageand/orinjury.
1.Removethepropellerfromtheaircrafttheninstallthepropelleronthebalancershaft.Makesurethepropellerturnsfreelyonthebalancershaft.
2.Balancethepropeller.
NOTE:Ifapropellerisdifculttobalance,makesurethepropeller’sholeiscenteredinthehub.
